How to design an ecommerce site that is easy to navigate for international customers

August 15, 2022

  1. Provide an intuitive site navigation: Utilize a global navigation across the top of the page, with simple and intuitive labels for product categories and search capabilities. Additionally, include a global sidebar that contains links for shipping rates, product returns/exchanges, and customer service/support.

  2. Use clear visuals: Employ visuals such as videos, images and infographics to illustrate products and customer stories. Also, utilize hover state effects to clearly display rankings and ratings.

  3. Offer multilingual customer service: Make customer service and support available in many languages so that customers can get their questions answered in the language they are most comfortable with.

  4. Offer a localized shopping experience: Enable customers to switch currencies, modify shipping and payment options, view product descriptions in their native language and view accurate product prices on their home currency.

  5. Utilize Universal design elements: Use universal design elements such as WCAG 2.0 compliance and mobile-responsive design. This will ensure the website is accessible to different global audiences.
