The Biggest SEO Mistake I’ve Made
When it comes to SEO, it’s hard to make one mistake stand out above all the rest. Every SEO initiative I have ever worked on has had its share of hiccups along the way. One mistake however, seemed bigger than all of the rest put together.
As a website administrator, I had knowledge of SEO and a deep passion for it. I decided to use this passion to improve the website’s organic search engine rankings. With a few basic tactics, the website started to see some solid improvement in the ranks. Over time the website started ranking better and better, eventually reaching the top of the SERP.
I didn’t think much of it and continued to work on optimization and gaining links from quality sources. That is until I noticed something peculiar; the rankings were dropping rapidly. The website was now off the SERP and I had no idea what was causing the sudden drop. After much research, I eventually discovered that I had made the biggest mistake of my SEO journey.
My biggest mistake was what’s known as “keyword stuffing”. I had become a bit too eager in my optimization and had over-used my targeted keyword, thus resulting in the drop in rankings. In other words, my targeted keyword was used too many times and had caused the search engines to consider it as spam. The lesson I learned from this mistake was to careful optimize the content and instead of keyword stuffing, use related terms and semantic keywords to convey the same message.
It’s been a few years since my biggest mistake and I’ve grown a lot wiser in my SEO strategies. To this day, I still remember the feeling of disappointment when I realized the massive mistake I had made. That’s why I always stress the importance of researching before taking any SEO initiatives. A mistake like keyword stuffing could undo all your hard work, so it’s always better to be knowledgeable and careful.
