Why I Stopped Doing Link Building And Should You Too

January 01, 2023

It wasn’t too long ago when link building was the hot topic in SEO circles. Everyone wanted to know the secret formula to get lots of quality links and get to the top of the SERP. But in 2020, the landscape of SEO has changed significantly, and link building is no longer the go-to approach for improving the visibility of a website.

So why did I stop doing link building? Well, with the advent of new technologies and algorithms, traditional link building techniques are no longer as effective as they used to be. Search engines now have sophisticated algorithms that can detect patterns of link manipulation and low-quality links, and this has resulted in link-building becoming much less effective.

Also, link building is a very time consuming and laborious process, and this is something I don’t have the time or energy for. Additionally, with the increase in the number of websites and blogs, the competition for links has become much higher, and it is now much harder to get quality links. This has made link building much less attractive to me, and I have since focused my efforts on other SEO strategies.

So should you stop doing link building too? Well, it really depends on your individual situation. If you have been successfully using link building as part of your SEO strategy, then it might be worth continuing to do so. However, if you are finding it increasingly difficult to get quality links, then it might be beneficial to explore other approaches. If you are looking for alternatives to link building, some strategies to consider include content marketing, local SEO, technical SEO, and social media marketing.

Ultimately, link building is no longer the be-all and end-all of SEO, and so it is important to explore other strategies to get your website and content discovered.
